Foreign Students

Pupils coming to boarding schools from overseas are expected to have a good level of English, many schools however offer support. Some pupils benefit from a short period in a language school, or for wider preparation, in a specialist study centre, of which there are several around the UK, before going to boarding school. These are similar to boarding schools, but concentrate on intensive English language support. They can help students to acclimatise to boarding life, ensure that they have sufficient English to cope with a normal curriculum and make the transition.

Pupils who have been educated in a British-curriculum school abroad should be able to transfer to a school in the UK fairly easily, but pupils with no experience of the system are normally tested by schools to assess their levels of achievement in English and Maths.
